In short - I like this game. It`s better than the third part and partially better than New Vegas. Some things Obsidian did better, but most things they screwed up. As always. But they were right about one thing - NV would have been better as a PC exclusive, and if they convince/join forces with Bethesda to create Fallout 5/or New Vegas 2 only for #PCMasterRace I will take back everything I said about them and will also buy their merchandise. Do they have any?
Comparing to New Vegas(because why not?), this is my IMO-opinion:
Pluses:
  • Optimization. To prevent save file corruption, I always disable auto-saves. For Fallout 3&4 I downloaded only 1 unofficial patch just to be safe. No problems during 100% walkthoughs. For New Vegas I used 4! And still it managed to crash and freeze, not to mention eternal loading screens. Sometimes game forgot to render textures, fps dropped to 14, and this list can go on and ooooon.
  • Graphics. Nothing new in NV, same textures and maps, but painted brown.
4-th part is beautifull. Look everywhere
  • weather, water, faces(not all) armor. Finally everything looks realistic.
  • Gameplay. NV brought a lot of stuff into gameplay like crafting bullets and grenades or breaking them into extra components, cooking, repairing gear with tools yourself and so on. But nothing special. Like in every rpg - go, kill, loot sell, die, repeat. Classic. But Y NO BOBBLEHEADS? :(
Bethesda brought something awesome
  • building your own Headquarters. Although I didn`t go very far and had only 1 major Fort Nox and a dozen of small checkpoints for resources, I enjoyed every last moment. And with Automatron I had freedom to build my own droid army and not to bother with these whiny humans.
Power Armor. Ooooooowwyeaaaaah! It`s no longer a giant useless piece of junk, now it`s a force to be reckoned with!
  • Combat. Bullets flying in different direction, not where you aim with your scope - almost 60 degree change of direction. Nukes that can`t kill coyotes. Character stuck during reloading and during VATS. Bouncing grenades, like they are made from rubber. NPC`s can deflect swords and axes with bare hands. Nice job Obsidian, how many programmers do you have? 1? 0?
4-th fixed everything. Now we can safely go guns blazing into enemy territory. As a bonus, we can mod our tools of destruction ourselves.
Enemies also learned new tricks. Hiding below ground
  • scorpions, mirelurks and rats. Climbing on rooftops - deathclaws. Hiding and being useless - Minutemen.
  • Protagonist. Finally we have our own voice. And I don`t understand why ppl prefer mutes? Would Mass Effect/Dragon Age 2&Inq be better without our speaking characters? NOE.
(+/-) Story. That`s an interesting one, because both Obsidian and Bethesda gave were successfull. Partially.
NV had a boring main quest. Seriously, I hate politics, just kept skipping all the dialogues regarding it. Later repeated the same in Witcher 2. DLC`s however were brilliant. Except "Honest Hearts". Why should we care about these savages? Killed both leaders, got a map and left.
4 is vice versa. DLC`s are...strange. Nuka-World is big, but empty and Far Harbor could have been interesting, if we would have been researching The Mist, instead of bothering with someones politics AGAIN. Really, what is it? Anomally from S.T.A.L.K.E.R./Metro 2033? A living creature? We don`t know and it sucks.
Automatron is the only one I liked. Droid army, remember?^^
And now minuses:
  • Bethesda nerfed too much and removed some elements, that weren`t so much of a problem for me. Repairing stuff(although we repair our exoskeleton), persuation via perks and abilities(you could hit the Persuade button in the dialogue menu and another menu could have popped up, where you choose what knowledge your character can use), standard levelling like in NV and 3. Thanks for 35435 level cap, but still...
  • NV companions were fine, all of them. However in 4 there are some useless- Preston, Cait, Strong, X-synth and MacCreedy.
  • No "screenshots" in the end, where we listen what happened to ppl after our role in all of this.
  • And no info about Lone Wanderer and Courier #6. They both just dissappeared, like something is happening and they cooperated and went out to investigate.
Bonus: there is a rumor that Obsidian will actually join forces - forever or just for Fallout 5, no idea. But imagine - Bethesda`s skills with programming and a huge amount of resorces + Obsidian`s writing and imagination. This kind of project can be legendary!
