All statements and arguments made in this... | South Park The Fractured But Whole

All statements and arguments made in this review -- even those based on opinion -- are entirely lighthearted. All toxicity will be ignored.....incessantly. The following review contains PERSONAL OPINIONS and due to its content it should not be read by anyone.

Instead of reviewing Ubisoft's admittedly dodgy tactics, I will be reviewing the game, unlike a lot of people here.

Simply put, it's good. That South Park immersion from the first game has been stepped up and the 60+ FPS over the 30 from the previous title is very welcome. Your asshоle is more powerful than before and I find myself glued to the screen for hours at a time, appreciating the attention to detail not only in the world, but also the characters. The humour is on point, as you would expect, and it really is like playing an episode of the show. OPINION WARNING - To me, it feels like a worthy successor and not just an expansion from the first game.

Enough sucking the game's d?ck. Onto the issues I've seen people complain about, but that I (mostly) haven't experienced myself:

Getting stuck at the bottom of ladders. I did have this problem. Within 5 minutes of research I found the solution, so I don't know why people like to bitсh so much about small things. Yes, it shouldn't be an issue in the first place, but video games have bugs sometimes, so there. (Especially Ubisoft games, yes, I know.) I have a 144hz refresh rate monitor, and for some reason, that didn't bind well with the ladders in the game. Use RivaTuner Statistics Server to lock the frame rate to 60 FPS. If necessary, use NVIDIA Control Panel to set Vsync to the global setting ("Use the 3D application setting"), assuming you have an Nvidia card. If not, RivaTuner should handle it regardless. I also read of this working for people with 60hz monitors as well. Maybe it has something to do with higher frame rates and not higher refresh rates, I don't know. Worked for me.

Black screen at the start. Didn't have this problem, but I see equal amounts of people complaining about it and people saying to press Alt+Enter to enter fullscreen/windowed, from which point you can go into the game's display options and set it to Borderless Windowed, then everyone saying that worked. People know how to type, but not how to read.

Crashing and save file corruption. Uhh, can't say this has happened to me. Aside from the aforementioned frame rate lock requirement, everything has run very smoothly as expected. This review isn't a guide on how to fix the game, but on my experience with it. There are numerous real guides on Steam that seem to go pretty deep. I won't make suggestions, since this isn't an issue I've had, so if you've had this problem, you know more about it and possible causes/solutions than I do.

"Gamebreaking bugs". Why is everyone complaining about supposed gamebreaking bugs but not giving any specific detail? Do you want them fixed or do you just want to complain?

Repetitive gameplay... Have you ever played an RPG? Welcome!

Low frame rates... Really? You're not going to recommend the game because of that? I saw a review praising the game in every aspect but they didn't recommend the game because they got frame dips in some areas of the map. What are you?

Aaand... that's all for "bugs" and issues I've read about so far, only one of which I experienced myself and fixed in five minutes, research time included.

The price. Yep it's very expensive and for that reason I can't say I'd recommend this game to a non-South Park fan. But why would anyone who wasn't a fan even be on the game's store page? OPINION WARNING - I think it's worth it. At least it is for me, since the way I like to play ensures I get tens of hours out of this - playing slowly, apprectiating the visuals, etc. Ubisoft, like every other triple-A game developer and publisher, is known for their $60+ / ?40+ price tags. It's unavoidable at this point. If you like the show and you liked the first game, then invest in this one. It's worth your time and I'm sure you will find, your money too.

I didn't want this review to be about Uplay or Denuvo, but everyone is giving the PC version on Steam horrible reviews on that basis alone. This doesn't impede gameplay, local files or the Steam overlay or Steam achievements. I'll admit that it's annoying but come on.

That's all. I look forward to finishing the game and bending space-time with my butthоle in all its locked-to-60 FPS glory.

TL;DR -

Pros:

- Great visuals
- Great humour
- Refreshing gameplay
- Lots of exploring possibilities and inside jokes and references

Cons:

- The price
- Supposed "gamebreaking" bugs
- Uplay
